Apulia: discover the region

Clear waters, enchanting landscapes and local traditions welcome tourists who choose to spend their holidays in camping sites and bungalow villages in Puglia, one of Italy's most popular regions during the summer holidays. Also known as Italy's Heel, for its peculiar shape in the south east of the peninsula, Puglia is washed by the Adriatic Sea and the Ionian Sea, which give its coast different characteristics: sandy beaches and rocky stretches, with caves and stacks. Puglia is renowned for its sea, but is also appreciated by visitors for it vast artistic, cultural, religious and enogastronomic heritage.

Salento, Gargano and the two seas

Normally, when planning a summer holiday in Puglia, visitors first choose the area in which they want to stay, unless their planning a tour with a camper, car or motorbike. From a tourist point of view, two areas are particularly famous: Salento, in the southernmost part of the region, and Gargano at north. The latter is easily recognisable on the map, as it stretches in the Adriatic like a spur on the heel. Salento's popularity is constantly growing. The area is washed by the Ionian Sea at west and the Adriatic Sea at east, offering suggestive landscapes, clear waters and fascinating local traditions. The most famous tourist destinations, with some of the most beautiful beaches in Puglia, are: Gallipoli, Melendugno with Torre dell’Orso, Porto Cesareo, Torre Lapillo, Ugento, Santa Maria di Leuca and Otranto, in the province of Lecce; Ostuni, in the province of Brindisi. Gargano, on the other hand, overlooks the Adriatic Sea and offers renowned tourist destinations, including: Vieste, Peschici, Mattinata, Rodi Garganico, San Menaio and the beautiful Tremiti Islands, which can be easily reached by ferry.

Visiting Puglia means discovering a region full of attractions. From the Trulli di Alberobello, old stone buildings in the province of Bari, to the sanctuary of Padre Pio, or San Pio, in San Giovanni Rotondo, in the province of Foggia, without forgetting the many traditional village festivals that take place throughout the region.
